Richard “Dick” Swanberg, 87, of Dell Rapids, SD and previously of Wahoo, NE, passed away August 4, 2022.
Dick started as a telephone lineman for Northwestern Bell in Wahoo, NE, retiring in 1994. Dick was a member of the CenturyLink Retirees. (formerly U S West Retirees)
Dorothy Weeks, age 93 of Spearfish, South Dakota, previously of Buffalo and Swanville, Minnesota, passed away on July 5, 2022.
Dorothy worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company from 1947-1977. She was first a telephone operator and then a secretary for the company in Buffalo, MN.
Jon Otto Lehner, age 79, of Rapid City, South Dakota, passed away May 13, 2022.
Jon took a management job with the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1970 and spent his career with them, retiring in 1998. His time with the phone company took him to Sioux Falls four times, Aberdeen twice and Mitchell once. After retirement, he moved back to the Black Hills to enjoy hiking and traveling. Jon was a member of the CenturyLink Retirees Association (formerly U S West Retirees)
Mary Louise Zabdyr, age 79 of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, passed away May 19, 2022.
Mary Lou enjoyed working as a telephone operator for over 35 years as the phone company transitioned from the Bell System to Qwest to Century Link. She worked a number of years in Phoenix, AZ before returning to Sioux Falls. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and the Communication Workers of America (CWA).
Ronnette M. Locke, age 72 of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2022.
Ronnette began work at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company (now known as Avaya) as a telephone operator, and then later as an equipment technician. During her work career with the phone company, Ronnette had resided in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Des Moines, Iowa and Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Mildred Grace Kirschenmann, age 100, of Rapid City, South Dakota, passed away April 27, 2022.
After graduating, she was interviewed by the manager of Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Rapid City and was employed for two years. She married H. E. “Bert” Kirschenmann on April 7, 1943. Of this union, one son was born, Bruce Eugene. Millie and Bruce traveled with Bert during WWII whenever possible. They returned to Rapid City after his discharge in December 1945. In 1947, she returned to work for the Bell Company until her retirement in 1981 – a total of 36 ½ years. Mille was a member of the CenturyLink Retirees Association (formerly U S West Retirees)
